What Snapchat Spotlight actually pays a typical creator
Take the median creator in our panel who posts five to seven Spotlight videos a week. Their videos collect about 160,300 views a month. At the newest reported rate, that is $16.03 to $48.08 a month in Spotlight ad share. And that figure assumes two things most creators don't have: an invitation into Snap's Monetization Program, and videos long enough to earn.
By SnapDataHub. Snapchat has no public API for creator data, so the view counts and video lengths on this page come from our own index of public Snapchat profiles and Spotlight posts. Snap publishes no pay rate, so the rate is the newest dated third-party report, named below.
What we found
- Typical Spotlight views pay pocket money, not a wage. Even creators posting five to seven times a week, the busiest group in our views table, have a median of about 160,300 Spotlight views a month: $16.03 to $48.08 at the reported rate.
- $100 a month takes 333,000 to 1,000,000 views. That is roughly 2 to 6 times what the median five-to-seven-a-week account gets.
- Most Spotlight videos are too short to earn anything. Snap pays only on Spotlight videos of 30 seconds or more. Of the 1,212,998 public Spotlight videos uploaded in September 2026 that we indexed, 22.4% were that long. Among accounts with 50,000 or more subscribers it was 34.7%.
- The median creator is below the entry line. Snap's invitation criteria start at 50,000 followers. The median account in our 13,444-account growth panel had 39,800 subscribers at its first reading.
1. Monthly Spotlight earnings by posting frequency
The view counts come from our study of how often to post on Snapchat: 4,040 creator accounts with at least three Spotlight posts that were 14 or more days old when we last read them, between 6 May and 30 August 2026. Weekly views are each account's median views per post times its posts per week. We multiply by 30/7 for a month and by $0.10 to $0.30 per 1,000 views.
| Spotlight posts per week | Accounts | Median weekly views | Monthly views (about) | Implied monthly ad share |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Under 1 | 614 | 4,475 | 19,200 | $1.92 to $5.75 |
| 1 to 2 | 869 | 9,245 | 39,600 | $3.96 to $11.89 |
| 2 to 3 | 956 | 15,392 | 66,000 | $6.60 to $19.79 |
| 3 to 4 | 762 | 20,324 | 87,100 | $8.71 to $26.13 |
| 4 to 5 | 506 | 27,455 | 117,700 | $11.77 to $35.30 |
| 5 to 7 | 333 | 37,398 | 160,300 | $16.03 to $48.08 |
These are medians, so half of each group earns less. They also count every Spotlight view, which flatters anyone whose videos run under 30 seconds (section 2), and they leave out Stories, where Snap also shares ad revenue but which we can't see. Plug your own numbers into the Spotlight earnings calculator, which uses the same rate.
2. Most Spotlight videos are too short to earn
Snap's help centre is direct about it: "In order for Spotlight videos to be eligible to earn revenue, they must be at least 30 seconds long" (About Snapchat's Monetization Program, read 9 October 2026). Most of what gets posted is shorter.
| Uploaded in | Public Spotlight videos indexed | 30 seconds or longer |
|---|---|---|
| June 2026 | 340,134 | 25.4% |
| July 2026 | 419,152 | 24.3% |
| August 2026 | 497,688 | 22.9% |
| September 2026 | 1,212,998 | 22.4% |
Bigger accounts post longer videos, but not by much. In September 2026, accounts showing 50,000 or more subscribers uploaded 217,986 Spotlight videos with a median length of 17.7 seconds, and 34.7% of them reached 30 seconds. Smaller accounts uploaded 995,014 with a median of 10.4 seconds, and 19.7% reached 30 seconds.
The line has moved, quietly. When Snap announced the programme in December 2024, only Spotlight videos "longer than one minute" could earn (Creator Handbook, 19 December 2024). The help centre still said "at least 1 minute long" on 23 July 2026 and said "at least 30 seconds long" by 24 July 2026 (Internet Archive copies: 23 July, 24 July). We found no announcement of the change, and some 2026 guides still give one minute. We use the help centre's current 30 seconds.
Creators haven't visibly reacted. In our index, videos of 30 to 59 seconds made up 13.3% to 13.8% of weekly Spotlight uploads in the five full weeks before the change and 12.7% to 13.4% in the nine full weeks after it. Our index grew quickly from late August, so treat that as a rough read, but there is no sign of a rush to 30-second videos.
Length is something a creator controls, and our posting study found that within the same account, video length made almost no difference to views. So for an invited creator, keeping Spotlight videos at 30 seconds or more is the cheapest change on this page. It is still an association from our data, not a promise from Snap.
3. You have to be invited first
Snap's Monetization Program is invitation-only. Its published criteria ask for at least 50,000 followers and 15,000 hours of view time in the last 28 days, with at least 3,000 of those hours from Spotlight. From 7 May 2026, creators already in the programme also need 100 hours of Spotlight view time in 28 days to qualify for maximum rewards.
The median account in our 13,444-account growth panel had 39,800 subscribers at its first reading, below the follower line. We can't measure view time from the outside, so we can't say how many accounts clear the hours test. Check a profile against all three numbers with the Monetization Program eligibility checker.
4. Where the rate comes from
Snap shares ad revenue with invited creators but does not publish a per-view rate. The newest dated estimate we found is ShortSync's 2026 guide (August 2026), which puts typical Spotlight earnings at $0.10 to $0.30 per 1,000 views from creator reports, with higher figures for some US niches. Older reports were higher: Syllaby said $1 to $5 in May 2025. We use the 2026 range because it is the most recent, not because it is official. If Snap's real rate for you is higher, multiply the table above accordingly.
Quick answers
How much does Snapchat Spotlight pay per 1,000 views?
Snap does not publish a rate. The newest dated report, ShortSync's August 2026 guide based on creator reports, puts typical Spotlight earnings at $0.10 to $0.30 per 1,000 views. Older reports were higher: Syllaby said $1 to $5 in May 2025.
How much does a typical Snapchat creator earn from Spotlight?
Very little. In a panel of 4,040 creator accounts, the median account posting five to seven Spotlight videos a week got about 160,300 views a month. At $0.10 to $0.30 per 1,000 views that is $16.03 to $48.08 a month, and only if Snap has invited the creator into its Monetization Program and the videos are at least 30 seconds long.
How long does a Snapchat Spotlight video have to be to earn money?
At least 30 seconds, according to Snap's help centre, which said one minute until late July 2026. In SnapDataHub's index, 22.4% of the 1,212,998 public Spotlight videos uploaded in September 2026 were that long.
Method and limitations
- Views are from summer 2026. The weekly view medians cover 6 May to 30 August 2026 and posts at least 14 days old when last read, so each post's count had two weeks or more to build.
- The rate is reported, not official. Snap publishes no rate. Every dollar figure here is the view count times a third-party range, and moves with it.
- Spotlight only. Stories ad share, Snap Star deals, Snapchat+ revenue share and brand deals are not in these numbers.
- Our index is partial. It covers public Snapchat profiles and Spotlight posts that our discovery found. It is not all of Snapchat, and it over-represents creators visible enough to be found.
- Subscriber counts are the latest reading. The 50,000 split in section 2 uses each account's most recent subscriber count, not its count on the day of the upload.
- Nothing here is an experiment. The tables describe what creators in our data did and got. They don't predict what one creator will earn.
